Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: *Researches and produces high quality technical content, communicating complex technical ideas in writing and using diagrams and images effectively to enhance information delivery. *Works collaboratively with other writers, information architects, developers, support and quality engineers, and project management to deliver fanatical service to our customers. *Provides technical leadership and guidance to colleagues who are unfamiliar with own product areas. *Uses own growth experience to mentor developing colleagues, and participate in content-related communities outside of the organization.*Considered leader/expert in relevant technical/product areas.*Provide Information Architecture advice and editorial services into the information development team. *Oversees documentation strategy for InfoDev to create a compelling documentation experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:*Advanced English spelling and grammar skills, and a deep understanding of the mechanics of the English language.*Deep understanding of procedure writing, and documentation architecture. *Demonstrated regular activity in writing-related communities. *Expert knowledge of, and proven innovations in, the current content toolchain, content reuse, topic-based authoring, conditional content, and information architecture. *A complete understanding of the formal and informal content standards used by the organization, and familiarity with the industry best practices used to refine and guide those standards. *A willingness and ability to continue researching industry standards, and implement new guidelines where required. *Expert knowledge in multiple technologies relevant to current activities across multiple business units in the company. *Good working knowledge of most technologies relevant to our core business. *Ability to research and gain good working knowledge of technologies relevant to the strategic direction of the company. *Demonstrates a systematic structured problem-solving approach. *Ability to generalize a specific problem and derive solution for a class of problem. *Ability to drive innovation into and to continuously improve complex solutions and products within the business unit. *Project management and other leadership skills. *Ability to handle short-term deliverable timeframes. *Ability to successfully work and promote inclusiveness in small groups.
JOB COMPLEXITY:*Uses specialized expertise in one or more areas to interpret internal or external business issues and recommends best practices. *Solves complex problems and takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions. *Heavily involved with the team throughout project planning phases, to provide guidance on how deliverables are structured, the type of content required to complete the deliverables, and other improvements. *Be the customer advocate throughout the collaborative authoring process. *Perform in-depth quality analysis to ensure that any deliverables produced meet project/program requirements. *Educate and mentor Info Dev team members both formally and informally to raise the standard of content quality from the team over time. *Educate and mentor other internal customers (including management and development staff) in order to support adoption of the collaborative authoring model, best practices, and other content standards throughout the organization. *This may be through informal education opportunities, or formal training sessions. Involved with content standards and best practices development, and template maintenance for the writing team. *Oversee every deliverable controlled by the team, and direct the information architecture and user entry pathways across the entire org. *Determines which industry-standard tools and guidelines will be followed by the InfoDev team and oversees the implementation of any new initiatives or changes. *Educate and mentor senior (III and IV) Info Dev team members both formally and informally to raise the standard of content quality from the team over time. *Works with leads and editors to review documentation deliverables and ensure that they adhere to documentation standards. *Works with the Information Development Manager to promote the InfoDev organization. *Provides expert consulting with team, business, product, engineering, and design.
SUPERVISION:*Works autonomously, with guidance in complex situations only. *Provides guidance and training to senior team members.EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a writing or computer science-related field required. At the manager’s discretion, additional relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Advanced degree in a writing or computer science-related field preferred.
  • Requires at least 10 years of experience in a IT content field.
